About me

My love for numbers began over 30 years ago in high school when I helped manage the accounts for my parents' small coffee shop in Perth, Western Australia. At just 16 years old, I was already navigating MYOB, which I believe was one of the earliest instances of the software in use. This experience ignited my passion for accounting, which has only grown stronger over the years.

In 2001, my husband and I relocated to Brisbane, where I worked with a couple who managed apartment complexes and bars. MYOB was once again part of my toolkit, and I quickly realized the extent of my love for accounting in different business contexts. This led me to a role as a bookkeeper in an accounting firm, where I expanded my knowledge of financial reporting and data analysis.

Soon after, I joined a company handling government contracts for payroll, where I became an expert in FBT and salary sacrifice. But it wasn’t until I found my way to the construction industry that I truly found my niche. Over 10 years, I served as the Financial Controller for a construction company in Brisbane with over 100 employees and more than 10 different businesses under its umbrella. My last project was the $170 million IBIS and Sofitel development at Brisbane Airport. During this time, I became a mentor to university grads, helping them apply real-world accounting practices beyond the classroom.

In addition to MYOB, I’ve gained extensive experience with a variety of accounting software, including Xero, Greentree, Attache, and Oracle Netsuite. This has allowed me to adapt and thrive in different environments, providing tailored solutions to clients across various industries.

After moving to New Zealand in 2012, I continued supporting the construction company while traveling between Australia and New Zealand. But in 2014, I took on a new challenge. A neighbour who owned Chain and Rigging Supplies needed help with his books. The job was a perfect fit, providing the flexibility I needed while raising a young child. It was a refreshing change from my high-pressure role in Brisbane, focusing on just one set of books and a small team.

Four years ago, the business was sold to another Kiwi group and they offered me a full-time management role. I embraced the opportunity, revisiting skills like cash flow management and financial analysis that had been dormant for a few years.

Now I’m ready to take the leap and work for myself. With over three decades of experience in diverse sectors – from small businesses to large construction projects – I’m excited to offer my expertise to help small and medium-sized businesses thrive.
